Name: Miranda C.

Major: French

Year: Freshman

Why did you decide to study French? I decided to study French because I’m intrigued by French culture, and I had a badass French teacher throughout high school who has been one of my main role models.
How would you describe your personal style? I would describe my style as experimental. I can’t nail it down to a label because some days I’m über feminine and others more on the punk side, but there’s always a touch of ’90s.

Miranda layers a black babydoll lace dress she got at the Eugene Buffalo Exchange with a rosy slip dress that she found at a thrift store in her hometown of Ashland, Oregon called Deja Vu.

When do you feel the most confident? I feel most confident in dark clothes because it makes me feel mysterious even if I’m not. I feel confident in my style when I layer things that I had never thought of before, and it turns out to be a really cute outfit.

She also found her black converse at Buffalo Exchange after searching for a while to find a pair in her size.

Was there a moment in your life when your style changed? My style has stayed true to the same elements for the most part, but I’ve had phases like most people. When I was 16, I wanted to look as ’70s as possible, and in middle school I rocked more neon colors on a daily basis than I even own today.

She bought her totally ’90s choker on Etsy.

What inspires you? I’m inspired by the culture of the music I enjoy and a lot of teen movies from the late ’80s-’90s.
Do you notice what others are wearing? If so, what do you notice? I definitely notice what others are wearing, especially on campus. There’s a really broad range of styles that I hadn’t seen in my hometown, but in particular I notice shoes and awesome haircuts and makeup. Ankle boots are huge right now, and I’ve seen so many dreamy pairs walking around campus.
Miranda’s colorful stripped backpack from Roxy was a Christmas gift from her mom.
Do you think you have more taste or style? Why? I think I have more style than taste because in my opinion, taste is concerned more with quality or is more particular. I can put a lot of strange things together, but most of the pieces are likely to be thrifted or bargain hunted because I prefer to have more options and I’m the typical “broke college kid,” but that is totally okay with me.
