Name: Allie B.

Major: Communication Disorders and Sciences

Year: Senior

Why did you decide to study communication disorders and sciences? I’m really interested in languages, and I’m going to be a speak language pathologist, so I’ll get to work with special needs kids on their communication.

Allie rocks a layered Forever 21 tank top with a sweater from Buffalo Exchange under tan coat from Value Village. Her leggings are from American Apparel.

What are your plans after graduation? I’m going to take a year off and work and maybe move to the Bay Area.

How would you describe your personal style? Comfortable. I accessorize a lot. I also wear lots of black. Not today, but normally I’m wearing a lot of black.

Her studded booties are from Buffalo Exchange.

What tip do you have to layer clothes? I wear loose fitting things a lot. I like the baggier look. I typically buy things that are oversized, so you can layer them well.

Was there a moment in your life when your style changed? Well I always went to art schools for elementary and middle schools, so we didn’t have a “popular style,” so everyone was wearing whatever they wanted. I think that really shaped me because in middle school I could wear whatever I wanted and I never felt like I had to fit in. I think that’s where it stemmed from. As I got older, I got more put together and found my interests. I still feel like I can express myself through my clothes like I did back then.

What message comes through in your clothes? I’m not basic? I don’t know what people think when they look at me.

Does that matter to you? Not really. I think the way you dress does say something about you because I judge people by the way they dress and make assumptions about their personality. But it’s not a determining factor for if I’m going to be friends with somebody.

Do you have more taste or style? I would say I have more taste because I tend to like the same certain things, which might actually be style. When I think of someone stylish, I think of someone who is following up on trends, and I don’t do that. I just dress myself based on my own taste.

Her awesome leather bag was her mom’s and is from the ’80s!

How did you develop your own taste? It’s funny because now that I’m older, and I look at picture of my mom and how she dresses now, my style is totally based on her. I’m inspired by my friends as well, but I find myself sharing clothes with my mom a lot. It’s also where I’m from in Portland because people dress really interesting there.

What do you like about your mom’s style? She’s kind of hippy.

Is there a TV show or movie you’d love to have the clothes from? “Sex and the City” is awesome, but I don’t know if I’d dress like the people, but I love the clothes.

Is there a specific “Sex and the City” character? Carrie Bradshaw.
