Name: Rachel M.
Hometown: Eugene, Oregon
Rachel’s light blue shirt from SheIn is a bright way to ease into spring clothing.
That’s a cool watch. It was a gift from my great uncle. He fixes watches. I’ve never met him in-person, though.
Where do you get most of your clothes? I get most of my clothes from online or thrift shopping. The coat that I’m wearing now is a thrift find. I think that my boyfriend got it from Goodwill, actually. I also have a lot of older siblings and cousins, and some of my clothes are hand-me-downs from them.
Her Timberland boots paired with a thrifted military coat are a chic way to pull off the utilitarian trend.
How would you describe fashion in Eugene? Honestly, in Eugene, fashion can be whatever you want it to be. I think that everyone is usually very accepting of how you want to express yourself. Although, I would say that Eugene has a thrift culture. People of Eugene are really into reusing and having things that are original, so everyone seems to have his or her own unique style.
Do you admire fashion from any cities or countries in particular? Oh man. There are things that I like about many places. I love laid-back styles from island cultures. I also love the idea of dressing up in big cities like New York City. I’ve always wanted to visit New Orleans and Greece, too!
The necklace that Rachel is wearing was a present from her dad who found it in Kauai.
What fashion trend are you going to sport this spring? Right now, I’m into summery two-pieces, like the short/skirt and matching shirt combo.
Are there any trends that you aren’t looking forward to? I’m not a huge fan of Birkenstocks. I think it’s because everyone seems to have them, and I can’t really pull them off! But that’s just me. There are things that I wouldn’t personally wear, but it’s cool if other people like them.
You have really pretty hair! Do you try to match your hair with your outfits or do you like it to stand out? Thank you! I love to emphasize my hair by choosing colors that will bring out the color, like blues, greens, whites and blacks. I’m wearing my Timberland boots because they balance out the outfit, but I think I’ve always chosen clothing items that contrast with my red hair. That’s how I chose my prom dresses!
Would you consider fashion a hobby of yours? Fashion is being creative, and I think that can be considered a hobby. It’s fun to find new clothes to wear and show them off. I’ve been getting a little more comfortable with expressing myself and doing exactly what I want with my clothing. I especially think that making your own clothes can be a hobby, and I really hope to be able to do that someday.
