A Love Letter to Gilmore Girls

The vibrant fall foliage slowly changes color; leaves of green, deep red, and burnt orange swirl around you as you stroll to your first day of class. Your favorite coat and scarf finally get their chance to shine, wrapping you in warmth and elegance as you step out into the fall air. Pumpkin Spice and Gilmore Girls will provide solace in a different form, offering cozy flavors and heartwarming moments to your day. An aromatic autumn candle scent fills the air, carrying hints of crisp apples and the warmth of cinnamon & spices. As the Autumn light dwindles, an enticing book and a refreshing cup of tea beacon at your bedside, promising a cozy retreat into the evening. As rain patters against the window, you embrace the serene magic of fall.

Autumn traditions have become essential in my life, yet there was a time when I failed to grasp the true splendor of fall. Spring and Summer always signified celebration, sunny escapades, carefree exploration, and a lack of obligations. Winter brought festive cheer, cherished time with family, and cozy nights by the fireplace. I used to view Fall merely as a bridge to winter, a transitionary period. However, my position shifted when I delved into the world of the iconic television show, Gilmore Girls. It was then that I truly comprehended the enchantment of the autumnal season, inspiring a newfound appreciation within me.

I watched Gilmore Girls for the first time in the Fall of my freshman year of college. The way it portrayed the seasons gave me a sense of tranquility that I hadn’t previously associated with that time of year. The show depicts a mother and daughter living in a small town called Star’s Hollow. The two spend their days amongst the cozy community; going to Luke’s diner, having movie marathons, and being amongst loved ones. Moving forward, instead of waiting for other seasons to come about, I recognized the serene peacefulness of Fall.

Gilmore Girls not only captivated me with its comforting aesthetics but also served as a source of fashion inspiration, challenging the conventional notion that cold-weather fashion must be uninspiring. From the show, I found that cold-weather attire can be both cozy and fashionable. Armed with this new insight, I embraced a colorful array of winter wear—from vibrant jackets to chunky sweaters and scarves—transforming the mundane act of dressing oneself into a delightful, creative endeavor. Each day became an opportunity to blend practical warmth and personalized style, turning Autumn into a season of style where fashion and function could harmoniously coexist—all thanks to lessons garnered from the world of the Gilmore Girls.

Gilmore Girls became not just a show to me, but a guide to embracing the essence of self-care—especially during the colder seasons—when the world often retreats indoors. In the cozy ambiance of Star’s Hollow, I found peace in the art of slowing down and appreciating the simple pleasures. Inspired by the characters' meaningful connections, I embraced rituals like diving into the pages of a captivating book, indulging in movie marathons—usually Harry Potter, sharing moments with loved ones over dinners, and taking part in the joy of carving pumpkins.

All in all, Gilmore Girls taught me that self-care in whatever form isn’t a routine; instead, it’s a celebration of life’s small joys. By embracing each season and moment for what it is, one can find a higher joy and appreciation for life. With that mindset, even the dullest days in Autumn offer an opportunity to nurture the soul and find comfort in the delightful simplicity of everyday moments. If Autumn isn’t your thing, brew a hot cup of tea, grab a cozy blanket, and dive into the world of Gilmore Girls—you’ll be glad you did.
