How Emma Chamberlain changed the fashion world

At only 20 years old, Emma Chamberlain has the fashion industry in the palm of her hand. The internet sensation started making lifestyle/comedy YouTube videos at the age of 16 and has over 35 million followers collectively. Her unapologetic personality and style captured the attention of millions. The public loved her energy and sense of humor just as much as her unique style. As a result, most of today’s biggest fashion trends stem from Emma.

In her videos, Emma dresses in what she thinks is cute and makes her feel confident regardless of others' opinions. Her look was different from how most people her age dressed; it blended the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s fashion. She pushes the limits and breaks fashion norms by wearing things people wouldn’t normally put together or be scared to wear. Somehow Emma makes it work because it’s a refresh to fashion, unlike others her age. People immediately fell in love with her style and asked for her fashion advice. So, she started posting thrift hauls and outfit idea videos for her fans aspiring to dress similarly to her. Quickly after, everyone had a scrunchie in their hair and a pair of docs on their feet due to Emma. To date, everyone and their mother has been wearing flare yoga pants all season long. Chamberlain controls the fashion trends simply by wearing what she wants.

Many well-known designer brands caught wind of Emma’s fashion influence on the public. She made her debut as a Louis Vuitton ambassador in 2019 when she attended Paris Fashion Week with the brand in 2019. Some other brands Emma has worked with include, Target, Calvin Klein, and PacSun. The internet sensation even covered Cosmopolitan in their February 2020 issue.

Over the past five years of Chamberlain’s career, she has not only made a name for herself on YouTube but also in the fashion world. Every time she posts a new picture, she starts a new trend. Emma is constantly changing her style, leaving the public curious about what fashion trend she’ll start next. Emma truly is one of, if not the biggest fashion influence of Gen Z.
