You Might Need a Class Crush

Let’s set the scene: It's your 8 am math class. You had soggy oatmeal on the rainy walk to class, and you did not do your homework. But then they walk in– that's right, your class crush! You had planned for this. Your outfit is not only stunning, but also a fun conversation starter. Your posture magically straightens, and a slight smile comes to your face. You only know their name, and really not much else. But it doesn't matter; they’re going to get you through the next hour and twenty minutes.

Having a class crush is fun, but it’s also vital in those difficult, monotonous classes. A class crush requires a bit of imagination. As someone who can be a little delusional, I can tell you from experience how texting my friends throughout class about times when my crush looks over at my direction, or smiles at me, makes class way more fun. Whether or not he was really looking at me didn't matter. What did matter was that I was happy to participate in class more, because of the potential of my scholarly answers would spark the interest of that cute boy to my left.

Now, having a crush on someone from your math class will not magically boost your GPA (also speaking from experience). But simply the mere hope of seeing this person can help you get motivated to get to your class on time, or perhaps even early. Most of the time, this person's role is just to fuel imaginary scenarios and fantasies. They probably won’t be the love of your life, even if that is what you tell your friends. And I hate to break it to you, but I’ll cut to the chase: most class crushes end when the quarter does.

Regardless, I firmly believe that everyone needs a class crush. If possible, in every class, or at least for one class each day. When I started finding class crushes, I attended classes way more! And as an added bonus, having these little crushes makes life so much more entertaining.

So the next time you're in your math class, consider taking an extra look around. You may spot the one who will make your entire day glow…with just a glance in your direction.
